With the weather getting hotter and hotter each day, I find myself drinking more and more water to stay hydrated and keep cool. And with the Fourth of July right around the corner, I thought I would make some red white and blue ice cubes to add to summer drinks.
This is a quick and easy DIY (only takes a few minutes to make a whole tray) that you can make with your kids all summer long, but it’s especially perfect for July Fourth because of the patriotic color scheme. Bonus! It is also a great way to get kids eating fruits and drinking more water.
Supplies:
- Blueberries
- Raspberries
- Pomegranate seeds
- Ice cube trays (I used these two trays: one and two.)
- Water
Instructions:
Step 1: Wash blueberries and raspberries well. Get your pomegranate arils ready as well.
Step 2: Next, add several blueberries, raspberries, and pomegranate seeds to each ice cube section. If you have a long ice cube tray, like the black one shown, create a striped pattern with blueberries and pomegranate seeds, as shown, to create a patriotic pattern.
Step 3: Pour water into each cube well, covering the fruit.
Step 4: Set trays in the freezer and allow the water to freeze.
Step 5: Once frozen, you can add the cubes to any drink, like these sparkling water mocktails or fresh strawberry lemonade.
