I’m always misplacing my keys (and my sunglasses). I mean, it happens at least once or twice a week. So, I thought it would be fun to make a catchall bowl out of glitter. This way I know where my keys and sunglasses are when I’m running out of the door to pick my son up from school.
To be honest, this project is a bit messy, but it’s still pretty fun to make. Just make sure you cover your workspace with a plastic tablecloth. I did this project outside as well because Mod-Podge has an odor to it.
Here’s how to make your own DIY glitter bowl.
Supplies:
- 2 bottles of glitter (I chose to go with the big pieces of glitter.)
- Mod-Podge (1 bottle)
- Balloon
- Brush
- Bowl
- Disposable cup or bowl
Instructions:
Step 1: Blow up a balloon the size you’d like your bowl.
Step 2: Mix together Mod-Podge and glitter in a disposable cup or bowl. In the end, I used the entire bottle of Mod-Podge and 1½ bottles of glitter.
Step 3: Place your balloon in a bowl. Use your brush to spread a first coat of the mixture onto the top part of the balloon. The shape of the balloon will create the bowl shape.
NOTE: Gravity will pull down the mixture. Let the first coat dry for a couple of hours first. Don’t worry about seeing the balloon. Gravity happens. So, after a few hours, see where the holes are and spread your second coat of glitter and Mod-Podge. You may have to spread on a third coat.
Step 4: Let dry overnight.
Step 5: Pop the balloon with scissors. Here is the tricky part. The bowl will collapse at first. Again, don’t worry. It will form back into shape. I noticed that a portion of the bowl was still wet, so I put it in the sun for about 20 minutes and it dried quickly.
Step 6: Cut the edges of the bowl so it’s nice and even.
