This fall, I wanted to add a decorative touch to my boring countertop candle by creating a vessel that looks as pretty when it’s lit as it does after I blow out the flame. This DIY water lily candle holder is made from using inexpensive plastic spoons, and I love how it turned out. In fact, I made two. One for the kitchen counter and one for the mantle. Their golden glow is exactly the ambience I need to make the dark, chilly mornings and cool evenings of autumn feel a little less drab. I had seen a bunch of plastic spoon craft ideas on some blogs and Pinterest prior to this and now, after making this candle holder, I’m kind of hooked. Who knows what else I will come up with!
Want to give your house a nice warm glow during the cooler and darker months? Add some ambiance with this easy DIY plastic spoon water lily candle holder:
Supplies:
- plastic spoons
- glass tea light holder
- hot glue gun
- spray paint
- utility knife (box cutter)
Instructions:
Step 1: Turn your glass tea light holder upside down on a protected surface. Spray the exterior of the glass with your choice of spray paint color, and set aside to dry. Line up a row of plastic spoons on the protected surface, and spray paint the head of each utensil.
Step 2: Using a utility knife, score the unpainted handles then bend at the score line to break them off of each spoon. Recycle the handles.
Step 3: Starting near the top of your glass tea light holder, adhere a row of painted spoons around the exterior. Allow to dry before gluing a second row of spoons below the first (slightly overlapping). Repeat with a third row of spoons set slightly beneath the second row to make sure that each row of “petals” can be seen peaking out from the subsequent row. Set aside to dry.
