Ring In The New Year With Kid-Friendly Confetti Rockets

We’re almost ready to ring in the new year! Get ready to celebrate 2020 with a set of DIY confetti rockets to make your New Year’s Eve party the best one yet! Mix and match different colors of cardstock and tissue paper to make confetti poppers that resemble rockets. Are they messy? Yes, but that’s the whole point! Get the kids involved for a fun New Year’s Eve craft. Each confetti rocket is about the size of a toiler paper roll, so you can also turn them into cute favors by inserting candy or other gifts inside. Otherwise, they’ll be perfect little favors for releasing confetti into the air at the start of the new year.

Grab your favorite confetti mixture and sit down to make a set of confetti rockets! Your kiddos will love to use these, but they’ll also love to help make them.

Supplies:

  • Cardstock, multiple colors
  • Scissors
  • Confetti
  • Tissue paper, multiple colors
  • Glue gun
  • String
  • Large alphabet stickers

Note, you can also make this craft with toilet paper rolls! If you’re doing this craft with kids, you can use traditional Elmer’s or Tacky glue. Just keep in mind you will need to hold pieces in place longer so that the glue holds.

Step 1: Cut the colored cardstock to about 4.5 x 7 inches to create a tube approximately the size of a toilet paper roll. From metallic or contrasting colored cardstock, cut circles about 3-4 inches wide. If you have a paper trimmer and/or circle cutter, you can make more precise cuts. Otherwise, scissors are fine!

Step 2: Cut a slit from the edge to the center of the circle. Bend it into a cone shape and glue in place.

Step 3: Glue the rectangle into a roll so that it’s the approximate size of a toilet paper roll. Alternatively, you can paint a toilet paper roll or cover it in the paper. Then glue the cone to one end, creating a rocket shape. Make sure that the cone edge completely encloses the hole in the tube – otherwise your confetti will fall out!

Step 4: Cut a piece of contrasting colored tissue paper and fold in half to double up the thickness. Add glue around the inside of the tube (opposite the cone) and carefully insert the folded edge of the tissue paper. Lightly press the tissue into the glue all the way around the tube. Trim excess.

Step 5: Fill the tissue end with confetti. Be generous!

Step 6: Once the confetti rocket is full, use a piece of string to tie the tissue closed. This is supposed to look like the fiery end of the rocket! Make sure it securely holds the confetti inside.

Step 7: Lastly, add sticker letters or other embellishments to the confetti rockets. Then hand them out to celebrate the new year or other party occasion!

How to Use: Pull off the tissue end to easily release the confetti!

Use these for any celebratory occasion that could use a little extra color and confetti!
