Baby Shower Thank You Wording: How to Write a Gracious Thank You Note (With Examples!)

So, you just had the best baby shower ever … and now you’re knee deep in cute stationary, wondering about the finer points of baby shower thank you wording. We’ve all had to write thank you notes, but there’s something extra special about thanking a friend or family member for choosing a thoughtful gift for your baby-to-be.

First of all, you’ll want to thank them for coming to your baby shower, especially if it was a long journey or pain in the butt to get there. Obviously, the “meat” of the letter will be thanking your friend for the particular gift she gave. Use this as an opportunity to get as specific as possible about each gift and why you love it, or what you plan to do with it. Now, it may sound redundant to end your note by saying thank you again, but, believe me, your friends will be all smiles when they receive such a heartfelt note. Even if you don’t love writing thank you notes, keep in mind that this is probably one of your last chances to just sit and chill before the baby comes, so soak it up and start writing.

Standard Baby Shower Thank You Wording

Keep it personal to each baby shower guest, thanking them by name for attending and for their special contribution. Guests will appreciate knowing where you plan to put the gift, or what it will be used for, so feel free to get specific! And always end on a personal note, making the guest feel extra appreciated.

Dear Jane,

I can’t believe you made it all the way from New Jersey for my baby shower! I was thrilled to have you there, and can’t thank you enough for the gorgeous star-printed swaddling blankets. My midwife says swaddling cloths are the only way to get your baby to sleep through the night, so I’ll have you to thank for that! The material is so soft, I’m tempted to cuddle with the blankets myself, even after the baby outgrows them. It was so sweet of you to think of us. We feel so lucky to have you in our lives, and can’t wait for you to meet the baby (whenever she makes her grand entrance!).

Money/Gift Card Baby Shower Thank You Wording

Although this gift is a bit more generic, it was purchased with love and deserves just as much appreciation. Focus on as many details as possible, to help the recipient visualize what their gift means to you. Again, start out by making them feel special, and end on a similar note.

Dear Jane,

It was wonderful to see you at my baby shower! Sorry there wasn’t more time for one of our famous chat-sessions, but I was thrilled you made the effort to come and for the gift! John and I have already decided we’re going to put your check toward a reusable diaper service. As you know, the environment is really important to us. Now, every time we change a diaper we’ll think of you–haha! Seriously though, it’s something we really wanted, and are able to afford because of your generosity. Thank you so much for being a part of my baby shower, which was such a special day for me. Can you believe there’ll be a baby to hug next time we see each other?!

Awkward Gift Baby Shower Thank You Wording

The truth is, we can’t love everything, can we? But we still have to say thank you for it. An awkward gift might be from someone you’re not as close with, but still go the extra mile to make them feel appreciated, even if you have to fudge the truth about how much you love their totally bizarre gift.

Dear Jane,

You are so sweet for coming to my baby shower! It was wonderful to see you, as always, and I can’t thank you enough for the placenta recipes cookbook! I’ve been flipping through it, and there are some really creative ideas. Who knew?! Thanks again for thinking of us, and I can’t wait to come and visit you once the baby is born.

Off-Registry Baby Shower Thank You Wording

Not everyone will use your baby registry as a guideline. If someone has chosen to go off-registry, chances are they had good reason, so take that into account when thanking them for their gift. As always, thank them for their time and effort, in a warm and casual way.

Hey Jane!

Can you believe I just had a baby shower!? This baby is starting to feel real, all of a sudden! The shower was one of the best days of my life, mostly because I got to spend it with you. You know I’ve always been such a fan of your crochet, and I couldn’t believe you went to the trouble of making a blanket for my baby — and in yellow, my favorite color! It’s going to be so fun to wrap her up in it and snuggle her close. This baby is going to be so lucky to have an aunt like you. Thank you for everything.

Absent Guest Baby Shower Thank You Wording

If a guest can’t make it to the baby shower, she might still send a gift. The same rules apply, thanking them as specifically as possible for the gift, but making an added gesture of thanking them for the thought, considering they were unable to attend. Consider adding a detail about the party, so they feel less removed.

Hey Jane,

I was so sorry you couldn’t make it to the baby shower, but I totally understand. You missed a whole lot of blue balloons and a hilarious game of baby sketch artist (picture attached!). I was so surprised when your package arrived–you didn’t need to send a gift! But, since you did, let me tell you how much I love the selection of children’s books. The Knuffle Bunny trilogy is so sweet, I cried reading them. I know these books are going to become instant favorites as the baby gets older. Thank you so much for thinking of us, from so far away. We really appreciate it.

Writing baby shower thank you notes can be lots of fun. The trick is to stay creative and conversational. And keep your closing salutations as comfortable and warm as the note itself — try words like sincerely, yours, yours truly, or with love. With these tips, writing a baby shower thank you card should be easy peasy!
