Pregnant Woman Languishes on Life Support Against Her Wishes

In a horrific turn of events, 33 year old Marlise Munoz has been languishing on life support in Texas hospital against her and her family's wishes. Marlise was 14 weeks pregnant with her second child when she collapsed as a result of a previously undetected blood clot in her lungs. At the hospital, she was pronounced brain dead. Marlise's family prepared to say their goodbyes and turn off life-support in compliance with Marlise's wishes, but they were shocked to learn that this decision was taken out of their hands. Texas is one of many states in the US that prohibit medical officials to cut off life support from a pregnant patient.

As a result, Marlise has been on life support for over a month as hospital staff monitor the the development of her fetus. The hospital claims that they are simply following the law.

Marlise's mother said, "It's not a matter of pro-choice and pro-life. It's about a matter of our daughter's wishes not being honored by the state of Texas."

This is a devastating blow for any family and we are keeping Marlise and her loved ones in our thoughts.

Do you think the state has the right to intervene?
