Easy Easter Activities For PreSchoolers

Easter sets the stage for some great spring and holiday themed crafts and activities for young children.

While decorating eggs will likely be the highlight of your craft and activity time, the following activities are fun family favorites that the preschoolers I’ve worked with have enjoyed.

Easter basket cupcakes.

This 3-in-1 activity is a family favorite. Not only are they fun to make, they double as a cute place setting and triples as dessert!  Bake then frost a dozen cupcakes with white icing and bend a piece of licorice (or pipe cleaner) into an arch and insert it into the cupcakes. Sprinkle green colored coconut (made from mixing green food coloring and coconut in a bowl) on the frosting. Add a few small candy eggs to the basket.

Easter egg wreath.

Have the kids decorate 14 pull-apart plastic eggs with puffy paint markers. Let them dry. Cut out 15 leaves from green craft foam or construction paper and glue them 1.5 inches apart  on a ring cut from a heavy duty paper plate (cut two and glue them together for a sturdier base). Wrap green  twist ties around the ring, where the spaces between the leaves are. Then close the eggs over the twist ties to secure them to the wreath.

Brown Paper bag bunny puppets.

With a few wiggly eyes, yarn, construction paper cutouts for ears and a nose and glue, your preschooler can make his own bunny puppet.  Glue the yarn on for whiskers, an upside down orange triangle cutout for a nose and using a red marker, draw the bunny a small mouth. Glue on bunny ears, wiggly eyes and add pompoms on the back of the bag for a tail.

Chocolate chow mein haystacks.

In a large bowl, add 6 ounces of chocolate chips. Cover with a lid or plastic wrap and microwave at medium or low 3 to 4 minutes or until the chocolate is melted. Stir the chocolate until it is smooth then add a 3 ounce bag of chow mein noodles. Using two forks, toss to coat the noodles well. Place 1 1/2 inch clusters of the chocolate noodles on a piece of wax paper. Press down in the middle to make an indentation so the cluster resembles the shape of a nest. Once cooled, add candy eggs and a marshmallow Peeps chick.
