Quick and Easy Hot Spiced Milk Recipe

We love our chai tea lattes! However, why not let the kids experience the warmth and coziness of this drink with this kid-friendly recipe? Hot Spiced Milk is essentially a kid’s chai tea. It doesn’t contain any caffeine but is loaded with the spicy goodness of chai tea lattes.

A traditional chai is typically a combination of black tea with five or more Indian spices. Cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and black pepper are the top picks for the chai tea spice blend. The spices warm you up from within, making hot spiced milk the ideal drink when it is freezing outside.

Kids might not be the biggest fans of all Indian spices, so be careful when picking the ones you want to incorporate into your little one’s drink. The best part about this hot spiced milk recipe is that you can enjoy it with your munchkins. You can also make it your go-to beverage when it is too early for a cup of tea or coffee.

If your family is vegan or your child has a dairy intolerance, replace the whole milk with alternatives like soy milk or oat milk. Also, experiment with the spice blend to determine what Indian spices are your kid’s favorite. If they enjoy a particular spice, you can also add it to other food items like oatmeal to further elevate the dish’s flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1⁄4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of ground cloves
  • Pinch of ground nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk

Preparation

  1. Combine all your spices with the sugar in a small saucepan.
  2. Whisk in about 1⁄4 cup of the milk and bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and add the remaining milk.
  4. Let it simmer for about 1 minute.
  5. If you are going to enjoy a cup with your kiddo and like your hot spiced milk more intense in flavor, strain their portion and let yours simmer for another 10 minutes.

Top Tip: If you are using whole spices, toast them on a pan for about a minute to make the hot spiced milk all the more fragrant. Moreover, if it is hot out and warm beverages are the last thing on your mind, you can enjoy this drink iced.
