Easy Egg Custard Tart Recipe To Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

With a crumbly base and just the right amount of sweetness, this egg custard tart recipe will win your and your family’s hearts in no time. Don’t get intimidated by the name! The recipe is super easy to follow, and if you precisely follow the instructions, the dessert will turn out delicious and absolutely perfect every single time.

However, make the egg custard tart a day or at least a couple of hours before serving so the custard can cool down completely. You can store the egg custard tart in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and enjoy a slice whenever you want, either cold, at room temperature, or warm (by heating it in the microwave for a few seconds).

Ingredients

For pastry

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

For the egg custard filling

  • 4 eggs
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg, or to taste

Preparation

To make the pastry

  1. To make the egg custard tart pastry, first beat butter, sugar, and egg in a bowl until creamy.
  2. Blend in flour to form a dough. Use your hands to knead it together at the end.
  3. Once the dough is formed, roll the pastry on a lightly floured surface and place it into a well-greased pie plate, covering the bottom and the sides.

To make the egg custard filling

  1. To make the egg custard tart filling, beat eggs and sugar in a bowl with an electric mixer until well combined.
  2. Add in vanilla extract and mix well.
  3. Gradually stir in milk until fully incorporated.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the crust and sprinkle with nutmeg.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit until custard is set and a knife inserted near the center comes out clean (about 45 minutes).
  6. Remove the egg custard tart from the oven and let it cool completely for 1-2 hours before serving.

Cut a slice and enjoy the delicious egg custard tart after meals or with tea. You can even place pastry crust in individual bowls instead of making one large tart. If you want to skip the pastry, it will still be just as delicious, as the egg custard will melt in your mouth. Pour your regular egg custard into individual ramekin bowls and bake until thoroughly cooked. If you have a blow torch, you can torch the top of your egg custard to add an extra oomph to your dessert.

You can use pumpkin spice instead of nutmeg. Alternatively, you can add fresh fruit slices like peaches or strawberries to make it more delectable. Sprinkling brown sugar on top of the egg custard tart and caramelizing it with a blow torch is also a great idea. It will make the egg custard tart more presentable and add a bit of crunch. And if you are worried that the tart might not set, you can try adding a little corn flour to the mixture to set it while baking.
