Summer tends to wreak havoc on my hair. Between the beach, pool, and time spent in the sun, I like to use the changing season as an opportunity to start fresh with my hair and give it some new life. I’m really feeling these fresh haircut ideas and color techniques, so I’ll probably combine one or two looks to create my own style statement this fall. And it will be a welcome change to drop the “mom bun” for a bit!

17 Gorgeous Haircut & Color Ideas for Fall
Asymmetrical Bob
I love this look on actress Chloe Bennet. If you want to try asymmetry but are nervous about looking lopsided, try a look like this subtle asymmetrical bob. Styling tip: You can also give a subtle hint of asymmetry to almost any look by featuring loose face-framing waves on one side and tucked waves (behind the ear) on the other - as demonstrated here. I say just go for the chop...you can always even out both sides if the look isn't for you.

Razored Bob
Sometimes when you go the way of the bob, it can take on a look of a "mushroom head". Trust me, I've been there. This razored bob like the one Emma Stone is sporting has a modern touch with choppy ends and loose waves. If your hair is super thick, have your stylist thin it out a bit to avoid looking too voluminous.

French-Inspired Do
I'm pretty obsessed with all of Alexa Chung's looks -- and this one featured is no exception. Not to mention this long, shoulder-skimming cut and bang style is the quintessential Parisian girl look of the moment. I love how you can wear as-is (without much styling) or quickly pick up into a messy bun or pony. So versatile! The French do it right!

Choppy Bob
This choppy bob (as seen on The Beauty Department ) makes me want to cut all my hair off. For those of you who want to make a dramatic change --without going totally short -- this look is a clear front-runner.

Super Long Layers
Super long layers is the best of both worlds when it comes to styling and curling! Your hair has lift, doesn't weigh you down, and isn't too choppy to put up. (I love Olivia Palermo's color, too!)

Long Sleek Layers
I like to call this look "fedora fringe" . You can't go wrong with freshly trimmed layers to highlight sheen and length.

Balayage For Depth & Dimension
I love balayage for the depth it provides. Everything looks more natural and no two styles are exactly the same. And the regrowth? The "grown out" color appears intentional so the maintenance of this look is definitely one that requires little upkeep if you choose!

Rich Red Color
I'm enamored with this dark rich red with caramel highlights as sourced from The Everygirl . If you're thinking about going red, but want to stay more on the brown side of things, try this deep tone on tone with a burst of color. I think I may have to make this color my own.
Brown & Blonde Highlights
This look has been coined "bronde" and with good reason! The combo of dirty blonde and light brown looks good on almost anyone. And this is a great way to transition from those bright summer highlights into something more autumn-appropriate.

Single-Process Color
I'm totally digging an all dark look like the one Kendall Jenner is sporting. You can also count on the added perk of shine that comes with coating your hair in color instead of bleach! If your hair is looking dull, a single-process color can do wonders!

Ash Blonde Color
You don't have to give up your blonde for fall. This pretty ash blonde complements Lauren Conrad's skin tone and flatters her cut. I love the dimension of color and the lightness it brings to her face. Styling tip: Wrap pieces of hair around the curling wand, and then pull down straight towards the end. You'll achieve a little wave, but still keep things edgy.

Multi-Dimensional Red
I don't think it gets much prettier than this unbelievable red . If you're truly looking to change up your look and make a style statement at every turn, go bold red and love the new you!

Dimensional Color
Beachy waves never go out of season, and this cut and color on Ashley Greene is the perfect combo for showcasing waves and ombre for fall. The dimensional color makes it easy to style your hair straight or wavy.

Light & Dark Brown
This is a fantastic option for someone who wants to keep their dark color, but add a lighter tone throughout. Dark brown on top and a lighter brown on bottom. This look has me seriously considering dropping my blonde ends and going darker!

Warm Shiny Brown
I love this brown/blonde color on Chrissy Teigen featured. This color balance will last all of fall and grow out beautifully for the winter months ahead. If you want to keep your brown, this is a great alternative. I say just say warm up your features with some subtle honey blonde highlights.

Blonde Throughout
I've touched on the balayage trend before and it's still not going anywhere -- especially come fall when tonal color is all the rage! Painting on color with the balayage technique (as seen on Kristen Bell) will definitely add dimension to all sorts of hair, especially any that's thinned out from childbirth .
Dark Auburn
One of my favorite looks for fall is this version of a dark auburn. It is perfect for people with fair complexions and ideal for those cooler months. Style your tresses with some textured waves like Lily Collins and you're sure to turn heads.
